VERZUZ, which was acquired by Triller this year, has featured recent face-offs between the series’ founders Swizz Beatz and Timbaland, plus Method Man and Redman, Raekwon and Ghostface Killah, and a Steve Harvey — hosted special featuring the Isley Brothers and Earth , Wind & Fire. In February, D’Angelo got his own VERZUZ special featuring multiple cameos.

Eve recently reissued her album Scorpion. Find “What Trina Taught Me” on the Pitch, and read about VERZUZ in Pitchfork’s “How Music Persisted During the Pandemic.”

WHAT TIME IS EVE AND TRINA’S VERZUZ BATTLE?
Eve and Trina’s Verzuz battle will be taking place on June 16th.

Attention all Verzuz fans! If you’re thinking that the digital music series is starting to cool down before summer reaches, guess again. On Wednesday (June 9), the program’s official social media accounts revealed that the next exciting battle will be between Eve and Trina!

Since the beginning of the show, fans voiced their opinions about wanting more women matches and it looks like Verzuz is answering the call once again with the Ruff Ryders’ first lady and the baddest.

This looks like a fun very battle, indeed. Eve and Trina are two female rappers who’ve been in the game for years and they’re loved by millions. With record hits and classic anthems that many of their fans still rap at the top of their lungs to this day, the two MCs’ event will definitely be a ladies night to remember.

Recently, Eve and other members of the Ruff Ryders had to lay their fallen frontman DMX to rest after the legend passed away following a heart attack in White Plains, New York. He was taken off of life support after doctors revealed to his loved ones that his brain damage was past the point of possible recovery.

Maybe this Verzuz battle can brighten Eve and her RR family’s lives up, as they continue to mourn the loss of the Dark Man. As REVOLT previously reported, once she learned of X’s passing, Eve took to Instagram with a touching note about him. “#mydog I know that you are in the place of peace you deserve,” she said. “I will be forever grateful to have known you. You were one of the most special people I have ever met. Full of Humour, talent, wisdom and love, and most of all loyalty.”

Eve expressed her love and gratitude for DMX at his homegoing service at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, as well.

Eve and Trina’s showdown is scheduled for next Wednesday (June 16). Are you ready for their rumble?

Timbaland has explained the reasoning behind the pairs they choose to battle one another. He told Variety:

“The dynamics of sound and personality have to be there: Sometimes they’re similar, sometimes they’re in opposition. You want something that works sonically and is entertaining.”

VERZUZ ACQUIRED BY TRILLER NETWORK
In March, it was announced that Verzuz had been acquired by Triller Network.

Through the deal, Timbaland and Swizz Beatz are now “larger shareholders” in the Triller Network, and have allocated “a portion of their equity in the Triller VERZUZ combined company to all 43 creatives who have performed on VERZUZ to date.”

The list of artists who now own equity in Triller includes:

John Legend, DMX, Alicia Keys, 2 Chainz, Rick Ross, Too $hort, Patti LaBelle, Gucci Mane, Jeezy, E-40, Bounty Killer, Ludacris, RZA, The-Dream, Babyface, Nelly, Jagged Edge, Fred Hammond, Jadakiss, Fabolous, Brandy, Monica, Gladys Knight, Boi-1da, Hit-Boy, Ne-Yo, Johnta Austin, Scott Storch, T-Pain, Lil Jon, DJ Premier, Mannie Fresh, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, 112, Kirk Franklin, Sean Garrett, and D’Angelo.

This will be the first Verzuz event dedicated to female rappers. In the past, battles including Gucci Mane and Young Jeezy, Snoop Dogg and DMX plus Redman and Method Man were met with hundreds of thousands of viewers and support.

Eve has plenty of reasons to rock a Verzuz battle, which comes on the heels of the 20th anniversary of her seminal album, Scorpion. “It’s crazy it’s been 20 years since ‘Scorpion’ dropped!” shared Eve. “I remember the whole process of putting that album together, so many great moments and working with amazing artists and producers and of course winning a Grammy! And tracks that have lasted the test of time musically…Perfect time for a re-release.”

The deluxe edition, which dropped April 16, also includes four previous remixes of her signature tracks including “Who’s That Girl?” and “Let Me Blow Ya Mind.”

The follow-up to her 1999 debut record Let There Be Eve… Ruff Ryder’s First Lady, Scorpion propelled the rapper into a new league and cemented her place in hip-hop history. Working with Dr. Dre on the album, Eve created some of her most iconic and well-known singles from “Who’s That Girl?” to her collaboration with Gwen Stefani on the hit track, “Let Me Blow Ya Mind.”

“Let Me Blow Ya Mind” also proved to be a success for the multi-talented musician. Reaching the №2 spot on the Billboard Hot 100, it was named the 7th biggest song of 2001 by Billboard and continues to be a floor filler for every generation the moment that signature sample drops.
